This is a performance workshop/class where vocalists have the opportunity to work with a vocal coach (Bogdan) to learn and perform Doo-Wop and close harmony vocal music. Students will listen to recordings of classic vocal groups of the fifties and sixties and learn to hear and identify the intricate harmonies of the backup singers as well as to sing lead vocals in arrangements that they create of the songs, a cappella and accompanied by piano.  The group will listen to songs in class and assignments will be made for groups of three to five people which will be worked on to learn out of the classroom.

The results of the groups’ work will be assessed and developed in the classroom and will lead to performances of classic songs of that era and new songs in similar and new arrangements, made by the students themselves. The class will culminate in a final concert performance at the end of the term. Besides a physical and vocal warm up at the beginning of every class there will be improvisation exercises and other ensemble singing opportunities.

Prerequisites: Audition and approval of instructor are required. Auditions will take place on Wednesday, November 16th from 6:00 - 8:30pm in Jennings 218.
