Creative Strategies for Artists (APA2165.01)

Aaron Landsman

This course examines production methods and career strategies for emerging artists, especially those working across genres. Specifically, we will focus on fundraising via donations, grants, commissions, day jobs and other sources; strategic planning, especially when looking at socially-engaged practice; written and verbal communications; working with venues; promotion and press; and the nuts-and-bolts administration involved in bringing a new artistic work into the world. We’ll also explore equity, advocacy and social capital within the art world, and ways we might start to change existing models. The goal is to learn ways to scaffold the unpredictability of creative inquiry with solid support strategies.
