Partial Differential Equations and Fourier Series (MAT4134.01)

Andrew McIntyre

Many of the laws of physics and engineering may be expressed in terms of partial differential equations. These include the laws of heat conduction, wave motion, electromagnetism, fluid mechanics, quantum mechanics, and statics. This course will cover these key linear partial differential equations and the methods of solution through Fourier series. Fourier series are also of interest for their own sake, and the course will cover the application of these as well. The course is applied in emphasis; theorems will be stated but not proved.

Prerequisites: Multivariable Calculus and Electromagnetism, or permission of the instructor. Registration is first-come, first-served, beginning when 4000 registration opens, by email or in office hour.
