This class will explore incorporating logics of ecology into compositional designs, from interrelatedness with a particular environment or place, to expression of a system of nature in musicking. We will explore a variety of investigative practices including deep listening and somatic techniques, data research, dérives, psychogeography, and narrative gathering. The expression of findings will include a multi-channel sound design as either the major work, or incorporated within a composition/performance in a class-generated exhibition at the end of term. A basic familiarity with digital audio workstations is advantageous but not required.
