The fundamental concepts of singing will be discussed and vocal production and physiology will be explored. Listening to important singers and creating a vocabulary to describe their voices and styles will be an introductory part of the class. Group warm-ups and vocalizations will incorporate exercises to develop breath control, resonance, projection, range, color, agility, memorization, and ensemble listening as preparation for learning specific song assignments. Personalization of text and emotional expression will also be addressed as songs are worked on. Students will study and perform different styles from the more traditional song literature to strengthen and facilitate technical growth before moving on to other contemporary styles. They will prepare and perform songs and/or arias in one or more languages. Corequisite: Attendance and participation Music Workshop T 6:30pm – 8:00pm Auditions will take place on Wednesday, May 17 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm in Jennings 218. Students will be notified by email regarding registration. Please prepare a simple song you can sing without accompaniment that reflects your singing voice.
