In this class we will investigate the history of vessels made to impress, awe, and celebrate the technical as well as symbolic meaning of culture in different countries. Large and small in scale these vessel have been made for millennia to be used in tombs, in palaces, industrial expositions as well as the private home. These vessels often go to unimagined technical levels, impressing even the most jaded viewer. Students will be required to make new work along with helping to do research and plan for the up coming show titled” Function to Grand Vessels” which will be held in Usdan Gallery during the Spring of 2018. As part of the requirements of this class we will be taking field trips to museum and artist studio’s throughout the term. Students will be expected to buy drawing materials and to help pay for field trips. Registration: Students should email bbartlett@bennington.edu starting on May 10, stating their interest in the course.
