This seven-week intensive studio class will focus on enhancing skills that were taught in the introduction metal-shop class and further develop these techniques based on the manipulation of mild and cold rolled steel. Many sculptural processes will be demonstrated within this seven-week intensive course that builds further on the knowledge and practice covered in prior classes. Processes like riveting, shaping metal with hammers (metalsmithing), and bending techniques will be covered as well as understanding how to use the CNC plasma cutter with the help of digital support. The student will be asked to repeat what is done during class demonstrations and a final will be based on this practice. This class will be graded on accuracy, attendance and creativity.
