Mallet Percussion Ensemble (MPF4106.01)

Michael Wimberly

Mallet Percussion Ensemble explores a variety of musical techniques while creating compositions for the mallet keyboard instrument. This includes compositions for Marimba, Xylophone, Glockenspiel, Vibraphone, and African Balafon. Compositions may be adapted from composers such as, Bach, Fernando Sor, Gordon Stout, Franz Schubert, and World music, as well as popular songs. No prior experience for playing mallet keyboards is required, but reading music and pattern recognition is a plus. Rehearsing individually and attending lab as a group is highly recommended. Presenting solo and ensemble works-in-progress for music workshop and on campus events are encouraged.

Students must play an instrument and understand basic music notation.

Auditions will take place on Wednesday, May 9 or Thursday, May 10 in Jennings 301. To schedule, please email mwimberly@bennington.edu.
