This area of Public Action includes the research and analysis of contemporary complex problems/conflicts on a local, national and global scale and the development and implementation of solutions based on creative, efficient, sustainable design structures. Students will gain knowledge of the theory of conflict and the practice of resolution models such as mediation, negotiation and facilitation. Students will also engage in the theory and experiential practices of designing systems to solve complex problems, from the study of organic structuring principles to digital to visual mapping, and to governance network applications. Disciplines and/or program groups that support this area of study: anthropology, biology, languages, performing and visual arts, history, international relations/governance, digital media, design, computing, environmental studies, and conflict resolution.
