Current Affairs: Taiwan, Hong Kong and China (CHI4217.02)

From Hong Kong’s Anti Extradition Bill, One Country/Two System, The “Umbrella Movement,” China’s One Belt One Road, COVID-19, the US-China trade war, China digital currency, LGBT right in Taiwan to Taiwan’s Election in 2020, among other topics, students will use authentic materials, such as print articles, videos and other media as springboards to analysis and discussion about current affairs in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. Students will be given a written text with vocabulary lists and grammar points for each topic. Students will advance their skills in all four language areas via class discussion, research papers and worksheets, etc.

This class will mix synchronous and asynchronous. Students will meet with teacher for 2 hours twice a week and will do online exercises for other hours. All students will meet in small groups once a week with the teacher outside of the regular classes.
