Movement Practice: The Gentle Warrior (DAN2357.01)

Through direct personal experience, students will gain a deeper understanding of the body in motion. We will engage in movement research from a multitude of improvisational, somatic, dance and movement approaches; will delve into using floor patterns and scores for sensing and tracking the body while moving; will discover alliance with breath, floor, imagination, and communication; and will develop a deeper understanding of anatomy. We will be experimenting with speed and using the senses deliberately while in motion.


Learning Outcomes:
• Gain a broad understanding of concepts and practices in uses of breath, crossing
through space/floor, experimenting with speed, tuning in to imagination and
using the senses deliberately in motion
• Experiment with various types of Somatic practices
• Strengthen the body and the mind.
• Learn new specific movement patterns to enhance efficient movement
