I Got a Right to the Tree of Life: Music of the Women’s Suffragist Movement (MHI2113.01)

Through songs and stories this course will explore the journey for Women’s suffrage in the United States. Spanning the mid 1800s to the Voting Rights Act in 1965, the content will include voices of African American women, who are often underrepresented in these studies.


Learning Outcomes:
1) Appreciate the significant contributions and impact of the suffragist movement through study of the music that emerged, documented and empowered it.
2) Understand and apply knowledge of this music to other social justice issues and civil rights movements worldwide.
