Technology Pathways Seminar (CS4348.01)

Meltem Ballan

This course is designed to acclimate you to different branches of computer science, data science, software engineering and Artificial intelligence. You will learn from professionals in different disciplines and different levels of their careers to develop your own path and your own interpretation of technology. The speakers will be selected from large corporations, small businesses and incubators. This course will provide you an opportunity to network and connect with some of the speakers as your mentors. After each class you will write a short essay addressing what skills that you need to gain and what trajectories that you need to follow.

Learning Outcomes:
In order to build a truly inclusive technology community you need to do your own research, network and listen to as many as possible opinions:
● You will be prepared to contribute to a rapidly changing field by listening and interacting with professionals (e.g., techniques of program design, technology management, data science, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Crypto and Blockchain, Deep tech).
● You will acquire a deeper understanding on more specialized topics, and be able to critically review, assess, and communicate.
● You will be prepared for the next step in their careers, for example, by having done a research project (for those headed to graduate school), a programming project (for those going into technology), or in-depth business value proposition (for those going into startups).
