Movement Practice: Dreamtime into Daytime (DAN2020.01)

Erin Ellen Kelly, MFA Teaching Fellow

Wake up your body and mind through a series of moving meditations and exercises using QiGong, the breath, visualizations, and touch that will stimulate the body’s meridian system and activate a relaxed focus for the day. We will soften pathways in the body with circles, spirals, figure eights and undulating waveforms.

Using QiGong as the foundation, we will also explore a variety of stretches and somatic techniques found in other practices and lineages to support the facilitation of a supple, flexible body and mind.

We will use Soaring Crane Forms and Crane Walking Steps as well as QiGong theory, principles and cosmology, to help focus on the seasonal quality shifts from Late Summer, through Fall into Winter that occur throughout the duration of the course.  Elements of Earth, Metal and Water coincide. Additionally, we will employ self-massage techniques and Thai Yoga partner stretches to help relieve tension and promote flexibility

This class is open to everyone; no prior movement or meditation experience is required. Material covered in the previous iterations of Morning Moving with Chi will be expanded upon so that those who want can attend again.

Learning Outcomes:
*Increased flexibility, “inward reflection” and mental focus and clarity.
*Cultivation of sensory awareness and personal energy within the body.
*Familiarity with approaches to physical practices related to health and wellbeing.
*Foundation for a personal moving meditation practice.
