Advanced Animation (MA4128.01)

Bronwyn Maloney

This course is for mid-to-experienced animators. Our work may cover hand drawn animation, rotoscoping, stop motion, replacement animation, sand or paint animation. We will work on ambitious projects, and learn how to finish and polish them. Students will be expected to try new materials, play with scale, and design complex sequences.

We will practice combining and layering different techniques, incorporating found footage and textures, and learn some useful skills for compositing complex images into something cohesive. Sound design will come into play, and we will learn the skills required to perform, record, edit and mix sound for our own projects.

Learning Outcomes:
Explore animation materials in depth
- Introduce post-production
- Create a short film, or a series of micro-shorts, meant for theatrical presentation
