This course will provide time and space for students to engage with the art and artists from the exhibit Connected Diaspora (on view in Usdan Gallery Fall 2023). Through lectures, workshops, and readings students will gain knowledge of established, mid career, and emerging artists from the Central American diaspora. Coursework will consist of creatively and critically responding to various prompts and readings.


Learning Outcomes:
Gain knowledge of contemporary Central American diaspora artists
Critically read and discuss text in relation to Central American diaspora art and artists
Collaborate with classmates to make new work in response to various prompts
Connect first hand with artists from the Central American diaspora by attending lectures
Reflect and gain awareness on the importance of community building
