Studio Practice + Process: Insistence/Persistence: Dancing/Drawing/Writing (DAN4808B.03)

Jesse Zaritt

Morning sessions will begin with guided research practices that examine relationships between curiosity, desire, strength, organizations of effort/force and ideology/aesthetics: practices of critical physicality! Phrase-work will be shared as a portal to play. Choreographed material will act as a set of coordinates that anchor an exploration of exaggeration and sensation. We’ll fall into and out of lush, decadent movement experiences.

Afternoon/evening sessions will be organized as a series of durational practices and collectively designed rituals of exquisite attention; we will focus on creating immediate and urgent opportunities for dancing, drawing and writing. Spectacularly fleeting events, or micro-theaters, will be designed and inhabited each session. We’ll accumulate the artifacts of our research – drawings, notes, animations, scores – ultimately co-conspiring on how we might catalog and/or share the manifestations of our work.

Module dates: October 22 – November 15, 2024
