This course engages concepts of improvisation through the lens of creator and performer. Students will study and develop solo and contact-based improvisational practices. Each participant will be encouraged to take risks to broaden movement choices. Scores are introduced to expand conceptual ideas of ensemble dancing while collaborating in real time.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to:
-Investigate and utilize improvisational methodologies and structures in solo and collaborative embodied practices
-Develop practices for relating the kinesthetic/performative alongside the linguistic and visual
-Critically analyze their creative work in relationship to the work of their classmates and artists in the field through group discussion and writing exercises
-Organize, plan and present choreographic projects throughout their work in the course
