Mozart’s Idomeneo (MVO4265.01)

Gods, kings, princesses, sea serpents…at Bennington! This seven week class invites students to participate in a concert performance of Mozart’s “choral opera” Idomeneo performed by the Bennington Choral Society with professional singers and orchestra. Students will learn the extensive choral sections and be considered for minor roles. The chorus will play different roles in this opera including: the people of Crete, Trojan Prisoners, Sailors, Soldiers, and Priests of Neptune. There are additional opportunities for stage managing and technical work on this production. This seven week class involves weekly rehearsals and a tech/performance week from March 27 through April 1. Must be available for rehearsals Mondays 6:30pm – 9:15pm, plus Monday 3/27, Tuesday 3/28, Wednesday 3/29 and Thursday 3/30 for evening rehearsals, and Friday 3/31 and Saturday 4/1 for performances.

Prerequisites: Must be able to read music and match pitch. Prior Choral experience. Auditions will take place on Wednesday, November 16th from 6:00 - 8:30pm in Jennings 218.
