Fundamentals of Creative Writing (LIT2394.01)

This course, intended for students who have not yet taken a Reading and Writing course at Bennington, will serve as an intensive and comprehensive introduction to the workshop method. We will exploring the genres of poetry, literary fiction, and creative non-fiction in order to build working knowledge on the craft of creative writing. Students will complete weekly writing assignments that will culminate into several poems, one short story, and one lyric or narrative essay, all of which will be discussed in class. Throughout the semester, students will read a selection of contemporary authors across the three genres.

Corequisites: Students are required to attend all Literature Evenings and Poetry at Bennington events (typically held on Wednesdays at 7:00pm).
