Music Composition Project (MCO4802.01)

Allen Shawn
This is a course intended for composers with strong notational skills who have previously taken courses in composition and are interested in spending time on a substantial composition for a specific ensemble. This term we will concentrate on works for Piano Trio (ie: Piano, Violin and Cello). In preparation for this we will study a number of works from all periods for this ensemble, paying particular attention to how composers have made varied use of its instrumental possibilities.
Along with the extended compositions themselves, students will have listening assignments and will be expected to present their own findings on selected works.
We will have reading sessions of the works in progress, and all of them will be performed and recorded at the end of the term.
