Improvisation Ensemble with Focus on Electronics (MCO2001.01)

Cecilia Lopez

This class will be a hands-on improvisation workshop. Students will be asked to bring in both acoustic and electronic instruments, and we will develop strategies and techniques to integrate and combine them. We will play improvisation exercises in solos, duos, and trios as well as interpret text and graphic scores. We will listen and look at examples of compositions and music forms that embrace improvisation, in order to generate ideas and create frameworks to play.

We will be combining acoustic instruments and everyday objects with electronics, so students with or without electronics/music experience are encouraged to apply.

Learning Outcomes:
-Feel comfortable playing with their electronic set-ups in improvisation settings
-Feel confident playing in different group formations (solo, duo, etc.) in improvisation settings
-Be able to use and think creatively about electronics as a musical instrument -Be familiar with basic improvisation vocabulary
