Going to the Show: How Artists Work with Institutions (VA4236.01)

As they embark on their careers, what do young and emerging visual artists need to know about working with institutions and presenting their work? This course covers how-to logistics including (but not limited to) writing artist statements, documenting artworks, drafting proposals, operating within the constraints of a specific venue, innovating about promotional strategies, and collaborating with fellow artists in the context of a group exhibition. This course is a requirement for VA Seniors planning to participate in the spring 2023 Senior Show. (This course description is a draft to be updated in consultation with VA faculty.)
