This advanced research seminar offers students the opportunity to continue their culminating work in SCT in the form of an independent research project. For some students, this will be the second half of a year-long thesis; for others, this will be a one-semester project. Writing will take place throughout term. Students will receive feedback from the instructor, a second reader, and their peers in the course.
Learning Outcomes:
This course builds on the first half of the Senior Seminar, and therefore contains the same learning outcomes. For second-term thesis students, this will entail bringing these projects to fruition with increased clarity and depth. Students will:
1. Articulate a clear research question or problem and formulate an argument.
2. Identify an appropriate research methodology to their question and field, and carry out the research.
3. Survey the existing body of knowledge in their field and explain how their project contributes to the existing literature.
4. Communicate their research to others in the field and to broader audiences through writing and presentations.
Delivery Method: Fully in-person
Prerequisites:
Satisfactory work in SCT Senior Seminar I, prior 4000-level work in SCT, and permission of the instructor (email rsuberu@bennington.edu).
Preference will be given to students who email on a first come first serve basis.
