Ethnography of Latin America and the Caribbean (ANT4241.01) (cancelled 10/15/2024)

Cecilia Salvi

This course explores contemporary processes of social, economic, and cultural change in Latin America and the Caribbean from an anthropological perspective. Through ethnographies of the region, we examine legacies of the colonial encounter, nation-building, migration, political conflict and urbanization, as well as the impact of transregional social movements. We pay special attention to the craft of ethnographic writing and how it can enhance our understanding of complex social issues.
