Making Technical Theatre with Advanced Design & Collaboration (DRA2383.02)

Tilly Grimes

Working in conjunction with Advanced Design and Collaboration, students will be invited to join the process of bringing the shows to life.

When theater starts with a script, visuals tend to follow the narrative. But what happens when bold visuals lead the way?

Students will explore each discipline of technical theatre and participate in collaborating to create each of the advanced design pieces. We will have the opportunity to work across multiple spaces from Martha Hill to Lester Martin to site specific. Classes will include: gaining experience with the light board, backstage logistics, queuing, production management skills, intro to budgeting, and learning the production process in general

The majority of time will be dedicated to in class presentations in each discipline and hands on experience working on each production. Homework will consist of participating in technical rehearsals. Students will need to be free on Saturday afternoons for tech sessions and the specific Saturday evenings for performances.

PLEASE NOTE: Collaboration is marked by walking into the room with grace and generosity so this must be centrally of interest to the student wanting to participate in this design centric collaboration.
