Introduction to Viola (MIN2214.01)

The course is designed for students with no prior string instrument experience. Admission is on a first come, first served basis. Classes will be one-on-one, individual lessons.

Daily practice of 10 to 15 minutes is expected, in order for students to become familiar and comfortable with the basic mechanics of playing viola.

Experience with reading music, playing piano or any other instrument prior to taking this course is helpful.


Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the term, the objectives are for students to:

Hold the instrument properly.
Hold the bow properly
Be able to draw consistent sound on all four strings
Be able to play notes in sequence (scales in first position)
Begin reading music.
Be able to play short melodies, or part of a duet with the teacher
