Gender and Sexuality in Chinese Culture (CHI4512.01)

This course presents students with authentic texts, audio, and video from traditional to contemporary literature, film, and other art forms and invites students to explore the treatment of topics around gender and sexuality, including LGBTQ in these media.


Learning Outcomes:
...understand, discuss and critique various authentic Chinese texts, audio and video (media) and effectively communicate their thoughts on these in Chinese, both orally and in writing
...raise valid and rational questions regarding the media as a reflection of traditional and contemporary Chinese society and analyze and discuss these questions in Chinese
...conduct independent research on Chinese literature and other media.
...form ideas and opinions based on their research on the intersection of Chinese literature, other media, history and culture and logically state and express their thoughts coherently and cohesively in Chinese at an advanced level.
