CURRENT STRATEGIES FOR COMPOSITION AND PERFORMANCE: sound, movement, vision (MPF4218.02)

Elliott Sharp

This is a combination seminar and lab that will offer immersion into the process of creating performance work through the investigation of resources and inspirations crossing the usual disciplinary boundaries of music, movement, and retinal art. The course will culminate in a performance of student works.

Learning Outcomes:
Students will learn:

1) to look outside of the traditional histories and sources within their disciplines.

2. to develop skills of "global listening."

3. to quickly create works both individually and in collaborations with others in the class: "instant composition"

4. the meaning and value of improvisation and how it serves as a useful tool both in art and in life.

5. Students will find this class to be an ideal way to apply the concept of the Capacities.
