This advanced design class focuses primarily on costume design while also exploring elements of scenery, architecture, and the decorative arts. The class is project-based and involves designing for both scripted and unscripted forms (such as plays and dance) within the context of the Art Deco style. Students should possess an interest in period clothing and fashion, strong research skills, and an ability to render and communicate their design ideas graphically. They should be confident about their ability to work in a graphic platform or medium, and interested in expanding their understanding of clothing design. While the classic tools for costume design are pencil and watercolor on paper, we may work in and explore various other methods of expression, such as digital tools.
Please note: this is not a garment construction class.
