The Basic Calligraphy Strokes for Beginners (CSL2003.01)

Ginger Lin

Mastering the eight basic calligraphy strokes requires great patience and concentration. However, once those and stroke order are mastered one will be able to copy any of the thousands of standard Chinese characters. Calligraphy has also been shown to be an effective form of meditation and art therapy. This class will provide the students with foundational theory and practice of Chinese calligraphy. The students will start with the basic strokes, upstroke, downstroke and overturn, etc. We will also refer to works of the masters to gain an understanding of both technical skills behind the art and the cultural, historical, and contemporary context of this art form.

The class will be conducted in English. If you have activities on the same night regularly or often, please don’t select this course.
